JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim have denied bribing the judges after some government officials accused him of bribing judges in order to pave way for Faaris Maumoon to become the president of Maldives. Qasim said that these are false allegations.

He said that, he and his son Siyad Qasim have not done anything unlawful and with the will of Allah the truth will be revealed soon.

“I swear by Allah that I did not pay anyone to do anything. Me or my child have not bribed anyone” said Qasim.

Qasim said that it has been proved that President Yameen embezzled state funds through his own admission and from his bank statements. He said that hence the president should be arrested.

The verdict of 1st February by the Supreme Court had the signatures of 5 judges. Hence if India bribed 2 judges, why should the other three judges sign the verdict. President Yameen stated that the Supreme Court tried to issue other verdicts as well but it could not be done because the other three judges refused to do it. So, some are questioning why they signed the verdict of 1st February because if they did not sign then Chief Justice and Justice Ali Hameed would not have been able to issue the verdict on their own.

Lawyers are saying that after the two judges were arrested, the remaining judges are afraid and hence the verdicts issued after 5th February are highly questionable. Former Assistant PG Hussein Shameem said that two of the current supreme court justices are close friends of his and that they studied with him. He said that the verdicts issued by the court does not look like they were written by them.

Hence, many people are questioning about the government’s claim that the justices were bribed and that it was a judicial coup to overthrow the president.
