Opposition parties have said that even though the government wants to talk with specific leaders of opposition parties individually, it will not be successful.

Speaking to the press Hassan Latheef said that the government tried to talk with Nasheed via a third party and he shared it with other leaders of the opposition coalition. He said that the opposition leaders decided what to do regarding the proposition of the government.

Hassan Latheef said that the opposition leaders are united and hence the government cannot try to cut deals with individual leaders. In addition he said that even though the government said that they are getting ready for the election, there is nothing the government should do to get ready for the election. “PPM might get ready for elections. President Yamene might get ready but there is nothing the government should do in order to get ready for the elections” said Hassan.

He said that the government should issue a statement or an open letter stating that they will agree to let UN mediate the talks with the opposition. “Like we submitted letters, the government should also show it in writing” said Hassan.
