State Trading Organization STO has signed a 200 million dollar agreement with MACL to supply fuel to Velana International Airport. This is the most expensive of this kind ever to be signed in the Maldives.

In a ceremony held at STO head office today, the MD of STO Ahmed Shaheer signed the agreement on behalf of the company while MD Adhil Moosa signed on behalf of MACL. STO supplied fuel for MACL in the past 6 years as well and now it has been renewed for 2 more years. Under the agreement STO will supply jet fuel and diesel to MACL.

Shaheer said that in the past 6 years STO supplied quality fuel and they delivered it as required by MACL. He said that STO is the most experienced oil importer in the Maldives and hence they are sure that they can provide quality services even in future. In addition he said that even this time, they are giving the lowest possible price for MACL and also they considered the price changes that might come in the global oil market.

Furthermore, he said that STO has brought an oil tanker to store more oil so that it can be provided at a cheaper rate to Maldivians. He said that they are able to provide oil to MACL also at a cheaper rate because of this arrangement.

Speaking at today’s ceremony, Adhil Moosa said that they decided to increase the contract for 2 more years based on the experience with STO. In the past it was renewed every year. “With the new oil tanker brought by STO, it has benefitted MACL as well” said Adhil.

Adhil said that jet fuel should meet certain standards and even airlines will confirm it while refueling. “It has to be in international standards. Or else airlines won’t refuel” said Adhil. He said that they renewed the agreement after considering all these things.
