Representatives of the oppositions parties have gone to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives to talk about the torture which the prisoners are being subjected to in prisons.
However, they were told that no members of the commission were present at the office and an investigation officer met with them and noted their complaints. They stated that a meeting would be arranged sometime within the next week.
Opposition parties say that they need the help of HRCM to improve the condition of the prisons. They said that they are worried that the regulations in prisons are changed frequently and arbitrarily.
Furthermore they said that it is worrying that none of the members were present at the office during office hours and that the commission is not functioning properly because they are not working as they should.
