Milo Colors Award has revolutionized the development of students : Education Minister

Education Minister Dr.Aishath Shihaam have said that Milo Colors Award has revolutionized the development of students. The award was introduced in 2014 to recognize sportsmanship of students and to encourage students to pursue sports. Education Minister said that in the past 5 years number of students who have achieved in international competitions have increased significantly.

Speaking at the Colors Award ceremony held last night, the minister said that since President Yameen assumed office he prioritized improving the quality of education and producing skillful students.

She said that the government focused on preparing a generation that will take over the country tomorrow and a lot of importance was given to make the school environment more inclusive. She said that as a result, the education sector has achieved a lot in the 5 years at a rate that has never been experienced before. “Even if it is in the academic field or in other areas, in the past 5 years Maldivian students have shone brightly internationally” said the Minister.

The minister said that sports increases the social cohesion among the students and that the students who play well are tomorrow’s heroes. She said that today we are experiencing the fruits of the initiative taken by President Yameen in 2014 to invest more in sporting facilities.

In addition she said that those who won the awards have already earned a place in the hearts of Maldivians. “I have no doubts that those who won the awards tonight, will shine the name of the country in future” said the Minister. She also thanked President Yameen for his initiative and welcomed all the students who won the awards.

Furthermore the minister said that previously such competitions were only held for schools in Male’. She said that however today, number of students from the atolls who take part in interschool competitions have increased. She said that this is a result of the inclusive policies of the ministry.

The minister said that the number of school students who are taking part in national level competitions have also increased due to the priority given for sports at school level. She said that the achievements of schools students at national level has increased as well. She said that compared to 2013, today number of students who get chance in national teams have increased by three fold.
