PPM Council has passed to give the party ticket for presidential elections to President Yameen without a primary.

In a press conference held by the party late last night, the deputy leader of PPM, Abduh Raheem Abdullah said that the decision was made unanimously. He said that they made this decision because the constitution of the party states that if there is a sitting president from the party, then the party should give the chance to the president.

Meanwhile the opposition MDP is planning to conduct primaries this month. However the only candidate in their primary is former President Nasheed. Elections Commission of the Maldives warned MDP that if they conduct the election with Nasheed then they will ban the party.
