JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim has appealed to the president to stop being oppressive and to rule justly as commanded by Allah.
Speaking at a ceremony held last night where former MDP chairperson Ali Waheed joined JP, Qasim said that those who worked the hardest to help President Yameen win the election are now in jail. “Are all these people wrong and is it only you who is right. If so then there is a huge problem right? “questioned Qasim. He said that all those who might contest in the elections are in jail.
Qasim also spoke about former Defense Minister Nazim’s case. “Are you keeping Nazim in prison justly even after the police revealed that Nazim had nothing to do with what he is suspected of? Are you keeping President Maumoon and his son in prison because they committed crimes? No, they did not commit any crimes. Can you answer this? Can you say that you believe that Nazim is in prison justly? It has been 4 years since Nazim was imprisoned. Think about this. Is this not tyranny? “said Qasim.
Qasim said that MP Ilham, Sinan and Abdullah Riyaz are being charged with terrorism not because they committed any crimes but because the president is a tyrant. “Is terrorism the rope you use to hang anyone who goes against you ? Can you say that the courts are just ? The 1st February verdict of Supreme Court also states that the government influences court cases. The 5 justices said the truth. Now the Chief Justice and Ali Hameed are in jail. Is this justice?” said Qasim.
“The oath of your office says that you should rule justly. Is that how you are governing ? Was AP President Imran convicted of terrorism justly ? How can speaking at a public place be terrorism ? If we look at all those who were convicted, whose conviction was just? “ said Qasim
Qasim said that the Prosecutor General does not have the authority to prosecute anyone, unconstitutionally. Speaking about the 12 MPs that has been disqualified by the Elections Commission, Qasim said that the 12 MPs submitted their letter of resignation to PPM way before and hence a legislation that was passed after that cannot be enforced on them. “Even the Supreme Court has not made a decision regarding this case. Also when members of other parties join PPM it is not a problem, but if someone leaves PPM then it becomes a problem” said Qasim.
“After jailing everyone who helped to win the election, he is saying that it is his 5 year term. But how many people sacrificed for him to win this? these things should be counted as well” said Qasim.
Qasim said that none of the people who has been charged with terrorism cannot be charged this way. “They do not have any evidence. They just manufacture evidence. Even a student in grade 5 will know that they are manufacturing evidence. In Islam there is no hidden testimonies. Even the constitution does not state anything about it. Then who introduced this ? In Islam you need two witnesses. Now those who testify in criminal cases also testify in secret after altering their voice. Even then, Ahmed Rasheed couldn’t testify because he was afraid of Allah” said Qasim.
Qasim said that those who voted to approve the state of emergency also knows that 37 members cannot approve it. He said that even if President Yameen believes that he is the only one on the right path, he is suspected of many crimes. “he has made anti-religious statements, he has talked about theft, stealing, offering bribes and many other such things” said Qasim.
“Honorable President we are ready to accept everything but govern justly. JP is not a party which is not ready to join if required but that can be done when you conduct affairs in a just manner” said Qasim.
Qasim said that the election should be inclusive. “Without giving chance to others, if you say that you will use the military, the PG and the police then there will not be any stability. No one has been able to do this anywhere in the world” said Qasim.
Qasim said that there is no reason why JP wouldn’t change it’s stand if the court cases are conducted in a just manner. “The verdict issued by the criminal court at 1:30 am, is that a verdict ? If that is a verdict where are your confessions? Didn’t you say that the money distributed by Adeeb was your money ? Didn’t you say that the money that entered your house was haram ? How many billion dollars was it? “ said Qasim.
“Are judges entering the AG office to do things justly? We see judges entering the President’s Office. What for? Is it for justice? No, it is not” said Qasim.
Qasim said that it is not just to intimidate politicians and summon them to police station every day. “The person who helped you is in jail at 82 years. Where is the humanity President Yameen ? No, you don’t have it” said Qasim.
Qasim said that now the independent institutions in the country cannot do anything about it because they are paralyzed. He said that today, the unlawful orders by the commander in chief should be responded with no sir, like President Yameen have stated before. “I request TV channels to show this clip often” said Qasim.
“The army should save Maldives from this situation. They took an oath in the name of Allah. They are being paid with the people’s money. I worked to elect President Yameen because many soldiers and police officers requested me to do so. Today I am asking you to bring President Yameen to justice. We need justice. It is not right to influence everything. Colonel Nazim said that no citizen is guaranteed of any safety and it means the police and army as well. I beg you to put Maldives on the right path. I do not want anything. This is for the country” said Qasim.
He said that the price of goods and services are increasing because of President Yameen’s policies.
Furthermore Qasim said that the three stages of the court process for PPM can be finished within 15 days and other parties should get this “service” as well. He said that the case JP filed to the Civil Court regarding JP’s flag and emblem has still not be started and it is almost a year since then. “We can take it to an upper court only when Civil Court makes a decision right. What right do you have to hold this case” said Qasim.
Qasim said that during the time of the blue constitution all the power was with the president.
He said that however, today it is not the case. “If you withhold the rights of everyone else because you might lose your position, then how will you answer Allah ? Allah commanded to conduct trials justly. Is that what you are doing. Be afraid that you might have to answer Allah even tomorrow” said Qasim.
Qasim said that he has been working for reform since 1984 and that he will remain steadfast in his work.
“Does Anil have to go to the Supreme Court all the time ? Why cant he part with his phone ? Why does he have to summon the judges to his office. So why cant they make a decision on Nazim’s case ? The police has given the DNA report” said Qasim.
Qasim said that the world is changing and that no one knows what will happen tomorrow. He said that it might be President Yameen who will be in jail tomorrow. “That is why I am asking to be just. We can also forgive. We can negotiate but you know that you will not be successful if you continue to be like this. This system will break one day and then you will know who will be in jail” said Qasim.
Qasim said that the history of Maldives have not seen dirtier days. “Is that what you want ? We want to give you an honorary medal. You reached where you are because of Maumoon. You should be ashamed for this reason. This is not something I am saying to defend Maumoon. Allah has commanded us to be merciful to old people and children. Are you a muslim ? said Qasim.
Qasim said that he is saying these things not because he is angry but as a reminder. “I cannot control my emotions. That is why I am saying this. My son is in jail as well. He did not commit any crimes. The crimes he is being suspected of is something he is not aware of. He has never done anything like that. Do you think that you and your kids will be happy like this ? With the will of Allah, this is JP’s time and with the will of Allah JP or the side JP takes will win 70 percent of the votes” said Qasim.
