Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP), Qasim Ibrahim have stated that the days where the government intimidated the opposition and forced verdicts through the courts are going to end soon.

Qasim said this regarding a statement made by the Broadcasting Commission today.

“Who are the fugitives? the days where court verdicts were forced and where the opposition was forced to stop talking about the oppression are going to end soon. Real fugitives will be seen then” said Qasim. Also he has said “With the will of Allah we will come up with a common candidate and win the election in the first round”.

Even though the Broadcasting Commission warned TV stations not to show content of former president Nasheed and JP leader Qasim, prominent lawyer Dhiyana Saeed said that there is no legal obstacle for the TV stations to show content of these two leaders.

International community and legal experts have said that the court proceedings which convicted former President Nasheed and JP leader Qasim Ibrahim had many legal flaws. Also the international community has called the government to implement the Supreme Court verdict of 1st February which ordered to free all political leaders.

JP leader Qasim Ibrahim have also appealed his case at the High Court however, the court proceedings have still not begun even though it is almost one year now.

Recently Qasim questioned whether the Statement issued by the Criminal Court is in fact a legal verdict. Qasim was admitted at the hospital and the verdict was issued in absentia at midnight 1.30AM.
