President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of condolence to the President of United States of America, His Excellency Donald J. Trump, following the devastation caused by Hurricane Florence in North Carolina, USA resulting in loss of lives and widespread destruction to properties and livelihoods.

The President’s message reads as follows:

“I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the devastation caused by Hurricane Florence in North Carolina, leading to loss of lives and widespread destruction to properties and livelihoods.

At this time of national grief, I would like to extend, on behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives, and on my own behalf, our profound sympathies to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of the United States of America, especially to those who were directly affected by the tragedy. I also wish to laud the resiliency of the people of the United States of America in their efforts to surmount this calamity and the remarkable commitment of the Government in assisting the victims.

Please offer, Excellency, our sincere condolences to the families of those who perished.”
