Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Maldives, Wang Fukang has expressed hopes that through the close collaboration between China and Maldives, both countries will be able to further strengthen the traditional friendship and bring such a mutually beneficial relationship to a higher level.

The Ambassador made this remark in his congratulatory message to the people of Maldives on the occasion of the Independence Day of Maldives.

“On the occasion of 49th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Maldives and Eid ul-Fitr, I would like to convey my warmest congratulations and best wishes to the Maldivian people,” he said.

“Since its Independence in 1965, Maldives has achieved remarkable progress in nation building. The wisdom and hard work of the Maldivian people have been represented in the tremendous development of their country.”

“China and the Maldives are friendly neighbours by tradition. Since our establishment of diplomatic ties in 1972, the relations between our two countries have maintained steady and healthy development, with ever expanding exchanges in all areas.”

“In recent years, our cooperation in areas such as tourism and infrastructure development has been greatly deepened: China has been the largest market for Maldives tourism since 2010, with more than 331,000 Chinese visiting Maldives in 2013, and the newly built 1,000 housing units plus the planned 1,500 units with Chinese assistance have also boosted the economic and social development of Maldives. China and Maldives have proven to be good neighbours, good friends and good partners.”

“In China, 10 out of the 56 ethnic groups are Muslims by tradition, and their population is estimated to be 23 million. They have just spent a very holy and joyous Ramazan, and are about to celebrate the Eid with families and friends, same like their brothers and sisters here in Maldives.”

“It is perhaps no coincidence that soon after the Eid President Yameen would also be visiting China and attending the 2nd Youth Olympic Games, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The leaders of our two countries will be having top level discussion on many topics and exchanging ideas on cooperation in various fields. We hope that through the close collaboration between China and Maldives, we would be able to further strengthen our traditional friendship and bring such a mutually beneficial relationship to a higher level.”

“Once again, I wish all my Maldivian brothers and sisters a happy and joyous Independence Day and Eid ul-Fitr.”
