Ibrahim Nasir was an ideal defender of independence- President Yameen

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that the Maldives former President Ibrahim Nasir was an ideal defender of independence.

President Yameen made this remark in his address to the nation on the occasion of the Independence Day of Maldives.

“I remind you the memories of the hard work and sacrifices of Maldives former President Sumuvul Ameer Ibrahim Nasir Rannabandeyri Kilegefaanu Ibrahim Nasir who attained political independence for Maldives on 26 July 1965. He is an ideal hero in defending and protecting the independence of Maldives,” he said.

The President conveyed his warmest congratulations and best wishes to the Maldivian people on the occasion of the independence day of Maldives.

President Yameen also noted the sacrifices of the national heroes who sacrificed their flesh and blood for the sake of protecting the independence of Maldives from foreign imperialism.

He also noted the rebellion of 3 November 1988 which was orchestrated by a group of militants from Sri Lanka led by some Maldivian traitors.

The President commended the Jihad of the army of Maldives on that day to defeat the aggression of the terrorists.
