Govt will not hesitate to implement death penalty on murderers- Home Minister

Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that the government will not be the least hesitant to implement the death penalty on murderers.
Umar Naseer made this remark in a statement released in view of the escalation of violence in Male’ City.
The Minister said that the government will not hesitate to implement the death penalty upon murder convicts who were convicted of killing a person or persons willfully.
He said that the perpetrators of such violence will be sought and brought in front of justice.
Minister Umar Naseer added that Maldives Police Service has now commenced special operations to curb gang related violence and such crimes and to restore peace and stability in Male’.
17 people have been stabbed since July 28 and 12 people have been arrested in relation to these cases.
Meanwhile, some members of the Peoples’ Majlis have also reported that they have been getting death threats from unknown people. Maldives Police Service are currently investigating these threats.
