World has accepted Maldives’ work to generate clean energy: ADB

ADB has stated that the world has accepted the Maldives’ work to generate clean energy.

ADB Energy Specialist Len George stated that Maldives was in the forefront of lessening reliance on non-renewable energy sources and that this has gained the attention of many countries and international bodies.

He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held in SHE Building to mark the World Energy Day.

He said that the Government had launched impressive projects in the sector and had revealed that the agencies will work to ensure this will go ahead as planned. As such, George said that ADB had arranged US$ 50 million in 2014, which will be delivered in 2015.

George said that the Government had carried out commendable work in the target to achieve 30 percent of energy from renewable sources. He also said that the POIDS first phase agreement was the first of a series of contracts that will be signed on the issue.

He added that ADB was honored to be part of the nation’s clean energy drive and will seek to assist in the future as well. George said that the organization will seek to further the project in all parts of the country.
