Appeal on the 12 year jail sentence issued on Adhaalath Party Leader Sheikh Imran Abdullah has been filed in High Court today.

He was sentenced to serve 12 years in jail, after being found guilty of instigating violence by using hate speech during the May Day 215 protests.

Imran’s lawyers have confirmed that the appeal had been filed based on 12 factors taken into consideration.

The charges against Imran by the state were raised citing that Imran instigated violence during a speech he delivered at the May Day rally held in 2015. The verdict added that Imran and Adhaalath party must take responsibility for the actions that transpired during the rally.

Many have been expressing concern over the trial.
