Islamic University of the Maldives’ Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that the University will begin programs to train individuals in the field of Islamic Finance.
Dr. Shaheem said the University was conducting a course in collaboration with a Malaysian University adding that the program was a program fully run by the University. He added that the University will introduce a new module next January, further stating that an Islamic Finance Unit will soon be established.
Dr. Shaheem further said a Shariah board is mandated in all places run within the Islamic Finance principles, noting that presently all such institutions had the same individuals on the boards.
“We will work to create more individuals to fill board positions especially in Islamic finance and Takaful areas,” Dr. Shaheem said.
