Anti-Corruption Commission Member Moosa Ali Didi has stated that level of corruption had increased to record levels, becoming a social ill in the nation.

The first Anti-Corruption body was formed in the country on 21 April 1991. The day was marked in a special ceremony held in ACC.

Speaking in the ceremony, Moosa Ali Didi said most days were marked to raise awareness on key issues; similarly, Anti-Corruption Day was marked to raise awareness on corruption amongst the public.

Moosa Ali Didi said the ACC was formed under the Act and that the Commission was working along the lines of mandate drawn up as part of the Anti-Corruption Board. He said even though the Board was run under the President’s Office the ACC was an independent institution.

Moosa Ali Didi said ACC was prepared to implement measures and raise awareness on corruption, adding that results of the work were being seen.

Commission’s Research Officer Ikleela Ismail said the Commission was composed of young determined employees, who will carefully investigate all cases with full integrity.

Today marks 25 years to the start of anti-corruption initiatives in the country. At the moment, Maldives holds a poor record in international corruption indices.
