The government of Maldives has increase their assistance to fishermen to develop the fisheries industry. In the last three years of this government, the government has increased their assistance to fishermen and boat owners.

In the early days of this government, the government provided financial assistance to many boat owners who were unable to install engines on their boats due to financial constraints. In addition, the government provided engines to boat owners via MTCC on installment.

Because of this, new boats have started operating and each of this boat provides means of subsistence for a lot of people. In addition, government has provided loans to various people to increase the types of various fish products in the market. These include various corporative societies as well. So it should be noted that these are also additional jobs.

Sea cucumber breeding programs have been started in two islands and soon revenue will be generated from these projects. Government has already established ice plants in various islands so that fishermen can access ice easily. More of these projects are going on even now.

Fishermen of Maldives will receive more happy news next year. President Yameen announced that a project to breed bait will begin in 2017.

In G.A. Gemanafushi, the island where official fishermen’s day is to be celebrated activities has already started this morning. The official ceremony will be held on 13th December. On such occasions it’s important to note the things the government has done to develop the fisheries industry of Maldives.
