Fishermen of Maldives has accepted the Ooredoo Locate Satellite given to fishermen by Ooredoo on the occasion of Fishermen’s day.

Within a few minutes after Miadhu News published the news announcing that Ooredoo introduced the satellite location service, several fishermen reached out to Miadhu News expressing their gratitude to Ooredoo for introducing such an important service.

Some boat owners said that they are really happy because now they are able to check the location of their boats in real time. They said that now they always have to call the boat and check the location and because of the service introduced by Ooredoo, now they can check the location real time. Since this service is provided via satellites it can cover the areas where mobile reception is not available as well.

Ooredoo provides a web portal and a mobile application with the location device to the customers. Since the fishing boats in Maldives are now capable of travelling to great distances, boat owners were in need of such a device.

Vessel tracking devices are used all over the world to track vessels. In areas where radio and cellular signals are not available, the fishermen connect to the shore via satellites. In addition, using the Ooredoo location device boat owners can check the condition of the engine, the amount of fuel and the route of the boat. Moreover, it has an inbuilt geo fencing service which will notify the boat owner if the boat travels outside a certain area.

Because of this service, the work done by MNDF to locate boats that are lost at sea will be reduced as well. Hence, this device will be extremely useful for everyone in the fisheries sector.
