John Seyfert’s lawyer, the American citizen who was taken into immigration custody last night said that a Maldivian man who was ordered to pay back USD 40,000+ to Seyfert has appealed the case at the High Court.

The lawyer said that, Seyfert filed a case at the Civil Court, asking for more than 250,000 dollars which he lent to a Maldivian. However since the cash was given physically he could not prove this at the court and only proved that around 40,000+ dollars were given.

The court ordered the man to pay the money back to Seyfert but instead of paying the money he appealed the case at High Court.

The lawyer said that he lost the passport and reported the matter to Maldivian immigration and US Embassy as well. US Embassy has informed that that will visit Maldives to provide him with a new passport.
The money John Seyfert is trying to retrieve is the money he loaned to a Maldivian to develop a guesthouse in Hulhumale’. Seyfert has been trying to get back the money for the last 6 years according to the lawyer.

John Seyfert said that, the money he loaned include his pension money and money from a relative’s pension. John Seyfert said that he will be in Maldives trying to get the money till he die or till he gets it. He has explained the case in detail on his Facebook page.
