Maldives is among one of the happiest vacation destinations for tourists.

Recently a travel magazine stated that Maldives is a perfect destination with natural beauty. The magazine also stated that it is forbidden to bring in weapons and sex toys to Maldives and that if such things are brought in to Maldives it will be considered as a crime. The magazine advices tourists to be aware of this.

However, this information is inaccurate. Even if tourists bring sex toys, they will not be criminally charged. However, the sex toy will be kept with customs during the tourist’s stay in Maldives. It will be handed back when the tourist departs the country.

Commissioner General of Customs Ibrahim Shareef said that it is not a crime to bring in sex toys even if it is a Maldivian. However, since it is an item prohibited in Maldives, customs will confiscate it. “If a tourist brings it, it will be kept with customs till the tourist departs Maldives” said the Shareef.

He said that if a Maldivian brings such an item, the Maldivian will be given the chance to re-export it. Customs will destroy it if the person does not want to re-export it. “For the first time, we will give advice not to do it” said Shareef.

While it is forbidden to bring in any form of weapons into Maldives, this is something that the tourists should be happy about. Countries where weapons are available freely, are not safe. Even toddlers shoot their own parents.
