Non-resident Ambassador of Peru Presents his Credentials to the President

The non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Peru, Jorge Castañeda Mendez, presented his Letter of Credence to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning, at the President’s Office.

At the ceremony, the President congratulated Ambassador Mendez on the commencement of his term and welcomed the Ambassador to the Maldives.

During the call, the President remarked that the Maldives and Peru have enjoyed 28 years of bilateral relations, signified by close friendship and understanding. The President highlighted on the ambitious economic transformation agenda pioneered by the Government of Maldives to ensure a more resilient and prosperous future for all Maldivians. Noting that the Maldives and Peru share common views on a range of international issues, the President mentioned the active role that the Maldives continues to play in promoting human rights in the international arena as a member of the UN Human Rights Council.

The Ambassador expressed gratitude for the generous cooperation extended from the Maldives to strengthen the cordial diplomatic relations existing between the Maldives and Peru. He placed particular emphasis on exploring tourism promotion between the two countries. The Ambassador further concurred with the President on the need to strengthen partnership, bilaterally and globally, in tackling climate change.

The President was accompanied at the call by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Asim, and the Minister of State for Foreign Relations at the President’s Office, H.E. Mohamed Naseer. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Carlos Jimenez, Minister at the Peru Embassy.
