Saudi-Maldives relation is strong – Faafu Atoll project will go ahead : President Yameen

President Yameen have stated that even if the opposition tries to create rifts between Maldives and Saudi Arabia, it will not be successful and even now both the countries enjoy strong relations.
In a ceremony where numerous people of Vaavu Atoll joined PPM, the president said that soon a delegation of ministers will visit Saudi Arabia to receive some aid from Saudi Arabia.
The president also said that he has received invitation to perform Hajj this year as well and will meet the King of Saudi Arabia during the Hajj trip.
In addition, President Yameen said that the Faafu atoll project will go ahead and other mega investments will be brought to Maldives as well.
Speaking about Faafu Atoll projects, President said that the project was not initiated during his administration and it was first proposed during Dr.Waheed’s administration. He said that hence details of the projects were shared with political figures even then, and since there is no reason why they should be unaware about it.
President also said that the government has no intention to sell islands of Maldives and even now islands of Maldives has been leased for 99 years and his government does not intend to do anything new. In addition, he said that the changes brought to SEZ legislation was not to sell islands but to make things easier for investors. President said that even then he assured that the government will not do anything that will put the sovereignty of Maldives at risk.
