Maldives and EU holds talks about increasing exports to EU countries

Government of Maldives and EU has conducted talks about increasing exports to EU countries and about opportunities for Maldivian businesses in EU.

Speaking to the press about the discussions held at EU-Maldives Policy Dialogue Foreign Minister Dr.Muhammad Asim said that one of the most important discussion was about visa to EU zone for Maldivian citizens. The minister said that it will be a huge achievement if Maldivians can obtain visa to EU easily. He noted that now, Maldivians have to travel to Colombo to get a visa if they want to travel to Germany, since there is no EU embassy in Maldives. Dr.Asim said that delegates from EU assured that they will try to assist Maldives regarding this.

The minister said that this shows that EU wants to strengthen relations with Maldives and he said that the dialogue was conducted in a very friendly atmosphere.
