Automatic weather stations will be established in 29 islands by next year : Thoriq

Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim have said that automatic weather stations will be established in 29 islands by next year.

The minister said that the weather stations will be funded by governments of Japan and Italy. He said that at the moment there are 11 automatic weather stations in Maldives and with the additional 29 the total number of weather stations will be 40.

While there are 5 meteorological centers in Maldives, the newly established weather stations will be connected to these centers. In addition the minister said that doppler radar systems will be put in use after repair and hence weather information will be provided to the people more comprehensively.

Furthermore the minister said that the development projects in Maldives can be conducted by planning in advance after obtaining information about weather. He said that hence it is important to get accurate information about the weather well in advance.
