Maldives Police Service has stated that 21 people were arrested for eating during the day this Ramadan.
According to police the 21 people were arrested from 1st of Ramadan till 25th of Ramadan after police received complaints. However police did not reveal details of anyone arrested for eating during the day.
As per the penal code of Maldives, without a reasonable excuse it is a crime to break the fast before sunset and if the court finds someone guilty of this crime, that person can be jailed up to three months. The most lenient punishment for this crime according to the penal code is jailing up to nine days.
