JP has requested to send their Leader Qasim Ibrahim abroad for treatment even if it is under the supervision of the police or the army.

Secretory General of JP Ahmed Sameer said that the doctors have said that Qasim can be treated only after doing a cardiac scan and hence that scan is not available in Maldives, Qasim is no longer being treated.

“Qasim is in ICU because he cannot be changed to anywhere else. Simply keeping a person is ICU will not heal the person. Pattient needs proper treatment to recover. That is why we are asking the government to allow Qasim to leave the country for treatment” said Sameer.

Sameer said that in Islam and even in the constitution of Maldives, right to life is a fundamental right. He said that however Qasim is being deprived of this right. Sameer said that they have sent two letters to the criminal court, one letter to the Supreme Court and filed a case at HRCM regarding the matter. He said that so far none of these institutions have responded.

He said that Qasim’s passport is being withheld due to the politically motivated charges against him and this also shows how much the government is controlling all the state institutions. Sameer said that the President should try to help a citizen when the citizen’s life is in danger because the President is responsible for all the citizens.

“I am asking everyone to allow Qasim to leave the country even if it is with certain conditions. You can stay without answering the letters today but everyone should believe that there is a day when everyone should answer” said Sameer.
