35 lawyers have filed a petition to the Supreme Court of the Maldives in support of the 56 lawyers who got suspended after submitting a petition to the Supreme Court earlier asking to reform the judiciary. Among the lawyers who signed the new petition includes former Chief Justice Ahmed Faaiz.

In addition many prominent lawyers such as Shaheen Hameed, Maumoon Hameed, Anara Naeem, Fayyaz Ismail and former judges also signed the petition. The lawyers noted that the previous 56 lawyers were suspended even without considering the petition at all. They stated that if anyone is penalized in the judiciary, all factors should be taken into consideration.

The 35 lawyers also noted that, it has been a week since the 56 lawyers were suspended and they have not heard anything from the courts so far. In addition, they noted that many cases in the courts are halted because these lawyers are on suspension.
