Maldives co-hosts a high-level side event on violence against children at the 72nd UN General Assembly

Maldives has co-hosted a high-level side event on violence against children at the 72nd UN General Assembly. The other hosts of the event are Estonia, Nigeria, The Office of the Special Representative of the Secretory General on Violence Against Children, and Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children.

The event was chaired by Gender Minister of Maldives Zeneesha Shaheed Zakee and they discussed on the challenges faced by various countries in preventing violence against children. In addition they discussed on ways to strengthen the prevention mechanisms.

Speaking at the event, the minister talked about various works the government of Maldives has undertaken to prevent violence against children. Furthermore, she shared information about the recently formed national action plan by the Maldives.

More than 70 delegates took part in this event. Other panelists include Foreign Minister of Estonia H.E Sven Mikser and Defense Minister of Nigeria Brigadier General Retired Mansoor Daan Ali.
