A Fatwa office inaugurated for the first time in Maldives!

Government has created a Fatwa office for the first time. The office is located in STO Trade Center. The office was inaugurated officially by Islamic Minister Dr.Ahmed Ziyad Bagir.

Under the religious harmony legislation, a Fatwa committee was formed and it was working under Islamic Ministry starting from 2016.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Islamic Minister Dr.Ahmed Ziyad Baqir said that the committee has done a lot of work so far and highlighted four fatwas and 2 instruction guides issued by the committee.

In addition he said that the members of the committee has worked with members from Fatwa committees of other countries to gain experience. Furthermore he said that they are also translating fatwas from other countries to Dhivehi.

The president of the Islamic Fatwa committee, Sheikh Mohammed Rasheed Ibrahim said that it is not a small feat to start such a committee in Maldives. He said that members of such committees are highly respected in other countries and sometimes holds a greater influence than cabinet ministers as well.
