The state should get 13.5 billion Rufiyaa which was lost in corruption: Asset Recovery Commission

Asset Recovery Commission have said the state should get 13.5 billion Rufiyaa which was stolen or misused since 1999. The commission stated that they have finished investigating cases worth 802.6 million Rufiyaa now.

Speaking to the press at the President’s Office, the chair of the recovery commission Home Minister Azleen said that the commission is investigating cases that exceeds more than 5 million Rufiyaa. He said that some people have paid back the money to the state, in some cases they have investigated.

Azleen said that the commission is investigating cases mentioned in Auditor General’s report and cases highlighted by other relevant authorities. He said that they are also investigating cases that have been parked as well. In addition, he said that if they have to take action against anyone, they will do it even if that person is in a senior position of the current administration.

Furthermore, he said that the PG is also checking some of the cases and criminal cases will be sent to the PG through the police.

The minister said that they will be sure of the exact figure of the total amount of money owed to the state once all the investigations are over.
