Health Minister Abdullah Nazim have said that Thalassemia research can be conducted in the tertiary hospital that is being developed Kulhudhuhfushi.

He said that the hospital will be specialized to treat Thalassemia patients and Thalassemia research will be conducted in the 150-bed hospital that is being developed by NIMS Hospital of India.

He said that in future, bone marrow transplant will also be available in the hospital. The minister said that since this government assumed office, the state funded 24 Thalassemia patients to do bone marrow transplant. He said that in addition 30 patients have secured funds for bone marrow transplant through Zakath Fund.
