Lafarge Maldives celebrates 8 consecutive years of zero lost time injuries!

Lafarge Maldives a company which manufactures cement and other materials needed for construction has celebrated their 8th consecutive year of zero lost time injuries.

Speaking at the ceremony held to mark this important milestone, the state minister for Health, Hussein Rasheed have said that all companies should prioritize the health and safety of their staffs.

“This is a huge achievement by Lafarge. All the companies should prioritize to make the work environment safe” said the minister.

The chairperson of Lafarge, Fathimath Ashaan said that their biggest responsibility is to ensure the safety of their staffs. She said that they also focus on to prevent any losses or damages to their customers as well.

Lafarge has many rules and regulations to ensure the safety of their staffs.

“For example, if a staff slips while climbing the stairs, we then assess the situation to prevent a second person from falling down the stairs. After assessing, we then bring the necessary changes” said Stefan Rio the Vice President of Lafarge’s foreign partner company.

He said that these regulations are followed in their factories abroad as well. He said that it is their biggest responsibility to ensure the safety of the staffs.

In last night’s ceremony, certificates were given to acknowledge the work of the staff Maldives. In addition, Lafarge Maldives was given an award by the parent company to recognize the achievement.

Lafarge is a French company and in 2015 the company merged with Holsim Company of Switzerland and is now called LafargeHolsim. With this merger, this company is the largest company which trades with cement. Lafarge factory in Maldives opened 19 years ago in Thilafushi. STO has 25 percent shares in Lafarge Maldives.
