People will start living in the 62 residential towers by 2019 : President Yameen

President Yameen has inaugurated “Hiyaa”, a housing project by the government of Maldives. The project aims to provide housing for more than 80,000 people.

Speaking at the ceremony held last night to launch the project, the President said that 62 towers will be built in this project. President said that government companies, private companies and two foreign companies are taking part in this project. He said that the government has provided sovereign guarantee to the two foreign companies.

President Yameen said that the government companies who are building the residential towers will not only build for their staffs, but a percentage of the tower should be given to the public as well. He said that by the end of 2019, people will start living in the towers and it will ensure housing for more than 100,000 people.

“It will not require that much money to build these towers. Government companies can do that” said the President.

President Yameen said that more than 200,000 people will get housing from various housing projects conducted by the government. He said that the projects being conducted in Hulhumale’ amounts to more than 4 billion dollars.

In addition, he said that the main problem faced by humans, except dangerous diseases are housing problems. He said that increase in rent and not having one’s own house is a huge problem. He said that housing and jobs are the most important and that is why his government prioritize these areas.

President said that many investors who planned to invest in housing schemes in Maldives, backed out because of political instability.
