There are Maldivians who needs rehabilitation in Maldives- Islamic Minister

Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said that there are Maldivians who needs rehabilitation in Maldives.

Dr. Shaheem made this remark when he was asked: “There are more than four thousand Kuwaitis in Syria who are participating in the civil war there. This happened because those youth did not get authentic religious education and cultivation. And this is a negligence on the part of the government. Now their government is working to rehabilitate them by giving them the correct education and providing them job opportunities. Do you think there are such youth in Maldives?”

Dr. Shaheem said that there are no terrorists in Maldives with links to terrorist groups however there are some who needs rehabilitation.

“They need to be taught correct religious education,” he said.

Dr. Shaheem said that there exists issues related to some of the youth making their own congregation for prayers and having marriage ceremonies on their own. He said that these are onset for the bigger problems.

The Minister said that such issues are spread in other countries with the onset of similar problems.

Dr. Shaheem said that the country is in need of more assistance and efforts from the religious scholars to resolve these issues.
