Served the parliament for 25 years – today is the last day: Shahid

MP Abdullah Shahid have resigned from the parliament today. He said that he has served the parliament for 25 years and that today is his last day.

 

Shahid said that he is resigning from the parliament to serve in the President-elect’s government. “I thank the people of V.Atoll, Rakeedhoo and Henveyru the constituencies I represented in the parliament, and I thank the parliament members who worked with me in the parliament” said Shahid.

 

Shahid said that even though he is sad to leave the parliament after 25 years, he will always remain to serve the people. “I am ready to serve in any position the president-elect offers me” said Shahid.

 

Speaking about the time when he was the speaker of the parliament, Abdullah Shahid said that even then he worked in accordance with the principles of Islam and hence everything was solved. 

 

He said that he will always remember the day he and the president-elect were thrown out of the parliament. 

 

One of the most notable days of Shahid’s speakership was the day when the then President Dr.Waheed addressed the parliament.
