Bank of Maldives have stated that the bank was not involved in any unlawful activity. The bank made this statement after President Yameen stated that the banks should take responsibility regarding MMPRC’s embezzlement scandal.

Speaking at a press conference held on Thursday night, President Yameen said that the money that should have been deposited to MMPRC’s account were being deposited to SOF’s account and hence the bank should be responsible at one level.

An official of the bank stated that all the transactions regarding MMPRC were conducted in accordance with the law. The official assured that nothing unlawful was done by the bank with regard to the case.

Many are criticizing the statements made by former President Yameen regarding MMPRC’s corruption. Some even accused him of being a part of it.
