Jumhoory Party (JP) has stated that the total amount of constituencies contested by JP in the upcoming parliamentary elections will be determined once the candidates for party primary finishes applying to contest with a JP ticket.

JP’s leader Qasim Ibrahim said that those who are interested has until 25 of January to apply and a special committee will evaluate the applicants and those who are qualified will be given the party ticket. He said that after that procedure, JP will announce the constituencies they intend to contest.

Qasim said that JP, AP and President Maumoon also expected the coalition parties to contest in the parliamentary elections as agreed before. He said that however, MDP refused to respect the agreement and decided to contest for all constituencies. Qasim said that hence JP will also contest in as many constituencies they can, and the national council of the party will make the final decision once the evaluation committee finishes their work.

In addition Qasim said that JP will always believe that one party cannot do everything and that Maldivians want multiple parties to work together. He said that JP will try to join with some parties to win seats in the parliament.

Qasim also said that President Solih is keen on upholding the coalition agreement and JP will also cooperate with the government.
