Human Rights Commission of the Maldives has begun investigating the death of the 23-year old woman who died in police custody. 

HRCM tweeted stating that they have begun investigating the matter. Meanwhile Maldives Police Service also stated that they planned to do an autopsy on the body after discussing with he family.

A statement issued by the police states that starting from the day she was brought into custody she was ensured all her rights. 

She was arrested over a snatch theft case and died while in Dhoonidhoo detention center.
