Former Home Minister Umar Naseer has launched a movement to drive out the Indian army from the Maldives.

Umar Naseer launched the movement in a meeting held at Dharubaaruge tonight. Since then he has released an application form for those interested in taking part in the movement.

Umar stated that the presence of the Indian army endangers the sovereignty of Maldives.

At the moment there are 60 Indian army personnel in the Maldives to operate the two helicopters ‘gifted’ by the government of India. Although the initial agreement was to train Maldivian pilots, India has not trained a single Maldivian pilot.
