Five benefits of attending someone’s janazah:

1. It is a Sunnah.

2. It is the right of the deceased.

3. A person attending the Salah will receive reward equivalent to Mount Uhud and the one who stays till the burial will receive reward equivalent to two Mount Uhuds.

4. It is a means of comfort for the family of the deceased.

5. It causes us to remember our death.”

Hadith: Reward for attending funeral of Muslim

Narated By Abu Huraira : Rasulallah SallAllahu aliyhi wasallam said, "(A believer) who accompanies the funeral procession of a Muslim out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's reward and remains with it till the funeral prayer is offered and the burial ceremonies are over, he will return with a reward of two Qirats. Each Qirat is like the size of the (Mount) Uhud. He who offers the funeral prayer only and returns before the burial, will return with the reward of one Qirat only."

{Sahih Al Bukhari - Book of Belief

Volumn 001, Book 002, Hadith Number 045}

Abu Hurairah (RadhiAllahu anhu) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (SallAllahu 'aliyhi wasallam) said:

"Every Muslim has five rights over another Muslim (i.e., he has to perform five duties for another Muslim):

1) To return the greetings,

2) To visit the sick,

3) To accompany funeral processions,

4) To accept an invitation,

5) To respond to the sneezer [i.e., to say: `Yarhamuk-Allah (may Allah bestow His Mercy on you),' when the sneezer praises Allah].''
