President Solih has decided to rebuild Kalhuvakaru Mosque at Rasrani Park (former Sultan Park).
The president made this decision after discussion the matter with his cabinet today. Rebuilding the mosque was among the 100 day goals of the government.
Technical officials of Minister of Arts and Culture advised the cabinet on their views about rebuilding the mosque. The team also had a public discussion forum regarding the matter last week. President Solih made this decision based on the counsel provided by the technical team and his cabinet.
The mosque will be preserved as a historic site and also the public can use it as a regular mosque.
The mosque was built during the reign of King Hassan Noorodeen. He ruled Maldives from 1799 to 1799. The mosque is one of the oldest mosques in the Maldives.
