Housing Development Corporation and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) will not host new year shows this year. MMPRC stated that they will not host a show this year.
A senior official of the government said that the government has not made any decision regarding a new year show.
Many religious scholars also continue to ask not to host new year shows. President Yameen’s government started hosting new year shows while Islamic Ministry was against it.
President Yameen’s government held the new year shows to mark the tourist arrivals. However many claim that it is just a regular new year show without much relevance to the tourism sector.
