Leader of Jumhoory Party (JP), Qasim Ibrahim has said that it is the ruling party which always ‘buys’ parliament members.
Speaking at a gathering held at JP’s HQ last night, Qasim said that in the 2009 parliamentary elections MDP won only 26 seats and when their administration ended after 3 years, they had 37 members. Qasim questioned how the MPs in MDP increased without any other byelections.
Qasim said that JP won 15 seats in the 2014 parliamentary elections but by the end pf President Yameen’s administration JP had only 7 MPs.
He said that, it is very clear that the MPs are bought by the ruling party and the people will not be fooled. Qasim said that in the past when the ruling party got the majority of the parliament, they ruled without considering any laws and regulations. He stressed on the importance of using the experiences from the past and warned that the country will plunge into chaos if not.
In addition, he said that while some people are accusing the MNDF, Police and the judiciary of corruption, it is the past governments which were most involved in corruption.
Qasim also noted that it is a responsibility of all citizens to ensure that the country is on the straight path.
