Elections Commission of the Maldives has granted People’s National Congress the permission to hold the inaugural session that is required by law to officially register the party.
Party’s founding member Abduh Raheem Abdullah (Adhurey) confirmed that the Elections Commission has given the permission.
Previously the Elections Commission delayed giving the permission saying that some of the forms submitted by the PNC were falsified. However, members of PNC and PPM met with speaker of the parliament Qasim Ibrahim yesterday and requested him to help with the matter.
Qasim Ibrahim called members of the commission and requested them to register PNC in accordance with the law. Last night he also stated that he will summon EC members to the parliament if that is what it takes for them to register the party. He said that everyone should be treated fairly.
Former President Yameen is also expected to join PNC and lead the party. Elections Commission will officially register the party once the inaugural session is held.
