President of the Elections Commission, Ahmed Shareef has stated that the political parties act should be amended.
Speaking at the ceremony held last night to launch the new logo of the commission, Shareef said that the legislation is in need of various changes.
“I hope that once the new parliament is elected, the amendments we propose for the political parties act gets approved” said Shareef.
He said that he hopes that the new amendments will allow the political parties to operate in a more democratic environment. In addition he said that it is important that elections are transparent in a country which gives importance to democratic values and that it is the responsibility of the Elections Commission to ensure free and fair elections.
