Supreme Court of the Maldives has issued a verdict stating that the extra ordinary congress held by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) is valid.
In the congress held in September, the party elected former President Yameen as the president of the party and elected 4 vice presidents. However the Elections Commission refused to recognize the congress and the matter was taken to the court.
Meanwhile, supporters of President Yameen has formed a new party called PNC. Speaking at a press conference last year, President Yameen said that they had to form a new party because of the court case regarding the ownership of PPM.
PNC held their inaugural session earlier this week and elected an interim governing council and a president.
