President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih;s special envoy Abdullah Jabir has decided to contest for Kaashidhoo constituency as an independent candidate.
Jaabir contested in MDP’s primary for the constituency but he lost the election to Abdullah Riffath. Jabir got 203 votes while Abdullah Riffath got 426 votes in the election.
Jaabir tweeted today saying that the legislation which prevents people who lose the party primary from contesting in the elections as an independent candidate is unconstitutional. He said that he will go to the Supreme Court to change that.
In 2016 the parliament amended the political parties act which prevents people who lose the party primary from contesting in the elections as an independent candidate.
