Former President Maumoon has stated that the verdict issued by the Supreme Court on 1st February 2018 broke the backbone of a tyrannical regime.
The former president made this statement on twitter and described the court’s verdict as a landmark decision which ordered to restore democratic rule.
Former President Yameen’s administration announced a state of emergency after the Supreme Court ruling and arrested two justices of the Supreme Court. The same day former President Maumoon was also arrested among many others.
President Maumoon was freed after President Yameen lost the presidential election in September.
