Minister of Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon and former Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon has decided to leave People’s Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM).
Dunya and Yumna, who are both daughters of former President Maumoon announced on Twitter today stating that they are leaving PPM because they believe that PPM is not being run in accordance with the party’s bylaws.
They made this decision few hours after the Supreme Court invalidated the case filed by a member of PPM requesting to hand over PPM to former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom. Last week the Supreme Court also decided to recognize the extraordinary congress held by PPM thus making former President Yameen it’s legitimate leader.
After the decision of the Supreme Court, former President Maumoon announced that he intends to form a new party.
