Sheikh Shafeeu Abdullah has stated that a person who says that the Maldives will be helpless if a foreign power attempts to invade Maldives is not fit to be the defence minister of Maldives.
Sheikh Shafeeu made this statement during a time of public outrage after Defence Minister Mariya Didi stated that India can invade Maldives anytime they want if India wishes to do so.
Many people on social media expressed concern and anger over the Defence Minister’s comment. Instead of apologizing to the public, the Defence Ministry issued a statement saying that people are twisting the minister’s remarks for political gains.
